Within the category of Long Term Work Visas, there are further subcategories. The main ones are:

  • Skilled Worker Visa
  • Health and Care Worker Visa
  • Intra-company Visa
  • International Sportsperson Visa
  • (The NEW) Scale Up Visa

To qualify for a Long Term Work visa, you must:

  • Work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office, you must have a confirmed job offer before you apply for your visa.
  • Have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
  • Do a job that is on the list of eligible occupations
  • Be paid a minimum salary – how much depends on the type of work you do

You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. You’ll usually need to prove your knowledge of English when you apply.

If you are not eligible for a Long Term Work visa you may be eligible for another type of visa to work in the UK. There are lots of visa types such as Short Term Work visas, which includes Overseas Domestic Worker visa, and Seasonal Worker visa, and Innovator and Talent visas detailed in the sections below.

Contact us and explain your circumstances. We will work with you to find the right visa to suit your needs.

With a Long Term Work visa you can:

  • Work in an eligible job
  • Also study
  • Bring your partner and children with you as your dependants, if they are eligible
  • Take on additional work in certain circumstances
  • Do voluntary work
  • Travel abroad and return to the UK
  • Apply to settle permanently in the UK (also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain’) if you’ve lived in the UK for 5 years and meet the other eligibility requirements

You cannot:

  • Apply for most benefits (public funds), or the State Pension
  • Change jobs or employer unless you apply to update your visa

This type of visa has stipulated that you need to work in an Eligible job. This is vital, so what classifies a job as ‘Eligible’?

A) The  UK employer has been approved by the Home Office

B) You will be paid at least the minimum salary for the type of work you’ll be doing

A) The UK employer has been approved by the Home Office

Check that your job is eligible. To check whether it is eligible you will need to know its 4-digit occupation code. If you already have a job offer, ask your employer for your occupation code or you can search for your job in the ONS occupation coding tool.

Not every job title is included. If you cannot find your exact job title, try searching for similar jobs. Make sure the job description matches what you’ll be doing. Some similar jobs have different codes, for example chefs and cooks. Chefs are eligible for a Skilled Worker visa, but cooks are not.

If this is difficult for you, please ask us for help. Contact us

When you know your occupation code, view the table of eligible jobs in the UK government website to see if it is included.

The table is very large. It is sorted in order of occupation code, with the smallest numbers at the top.

In addition to your job being eligible, your job offer must have come from an approved UK employer. Approved employers are also known as sponsors, because they are sponsoring you to come to or stay in the UK.

View the UK Government list of approved UK employers.

If your employer is not currently approved, they can apply for a sponsor licence if they’re eligible.

They’ll need to pay a fee – £536 for small businesses and charities or £1,476 for medium and large organisations. It usually takes around 8 weeks to process a licence application.

If your job offer is for an eligible role, and the employer is an authorised Sponsor they will check that you meet the eligibility requirements. They’ll give you a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ to prove this.

The certificate of sponsorship is an electronic record, not a physical document. It will have a reference number, which you’ll need for your visa application.

Many applicants struggle with this part of the process, so allow us to gain this information for you, and take ownership of the complex and time consuming section of the application. Contact us

Please also note there are a number of rules that you will need to abide by. For example, ensure that you apply for your visa within 3 months of getting your certificate of sponsorship. In addition make sure that when you upload documents, make sure that they are translated and certified in English, or at least understood by a non-Turkish speaking decision maker.

B) You will be paid at least the minimum salary for the type of work you’ll be doing

The minimum salary for the type of work you’ll be doing is whichever is the highest out of the following 3 options:

  • £26,200 per year Skilled / £33,000 per year Scale Up
  • £10.10 per hour
  • the ‘going rate’ for the type of work you’ll be doing.

You will usually need to be paid at least £26,200 / £33,000 per year or £10.10 per hour, whichever is higher. If the ‘going rate’ for your job is higher than both of these, you’ll usually need to be paid at least the going rate.

Example: Your salary is £37,000 per year, but the annual going rate for the job you’ll be doing is £40,000. You do not meet the usual salary requirements for this visa.

Each occupation code has its own annual going rate. Check the going rate for your job in the UK Government going rates table.

If you work in healthcare or education there are different salary rules where the going rate is based on national pay scales. In addition, If you do not meet the usual salary requirements, and you do not work in healthcare or education, you might still be eligible if your salary will be at least £20,480 per year and at least £10.10 per hour.

This is a complex area and we advise you to contact us.

Documents you will need to apply

When you apply you will need to provide:

  • your certificate of sponsorship reference number – your employer will give you this
  • proof of your knowledge of English
  • a valid passport or other document that shows your identity and nationality
  • your job title and annual salary
  • your job’s occupation code
  • the name of your employer and their sponsor licence number – this will be on your certificate of sponsorship

How much money will I need to apply and evidence to the UK government?

When you apply for a Long Term Work visa you will need to demonstrate that you have money to pay for the process and support yourself.

The UK government requires between £610 to £1,408 depending on the type of visa you apply for, to process and consider your official application.

You will also be required to pay the healthcare surcharge, which is approximately £1035 per year (as of February 2024).

The UK believe that you must be able to support yourself when you arrive in the UK, evidence of having at least £1,270 available is often necessary.

There are further rules that you may need to abide by to prove this availability of money to the UK government. For example you will need to have had the money available for at least 28 days in a row. Day 28 must be within 31 days of applying for this visa.

Thorough knowledge of the application process is clearly an advantage when applying. We know the rules and the exceptions, such as not needing this £1,270 if we can prove that your employer will support you for the first month. There are lots of important aspects to know.

There are some exceptions to these rules, but they are limited. For example, you will pay a lower official application fee if your job is on the shortage occupation list.

For example: You are hoping to come for 2 years on a Skilled Worker visa and your job is not a shortage occupation;

Our Service £650

Official application £719.

Healthcare surcharge for two years £1035 + £1035

This means you’ll pay a total of £1,754 plus £650 when you apply for your visa.

You’ll also need to prove you have £1,270 available to support yourself in the UK if your employer cannot cover these costs.

If your job is on the shortage list the official application fee is further reduced.

We charge £650 for our services. We will ensure that you apply for the correct Visa type and complete the whole application process including the translation and certification of any documents (free of charge).

To discuss your application it is also free. Do not be offended if we do not take your case, we will only recommend that you do not apply if we believe that you will not be successful. We are not afraid of failure, instead we know that the UK does not refund those applicants who are unsuccessful and therefore we will not take money from you unless we believe you have a chance of success.

If you decide to apply without the use of our service we wish you the best of luck. Make sure your answers are written in English and that the decision makers understand your answers. Upload the correct documents and make sure they are translated so that the decision maker can understand them. And do try to be successful, if you fail it is very difficult to reapply (even with a Consultancy Service) and get a positive result.

    • Have the consent of your parent or guardian to study in the UK – you’ll need to prove this when you apply

It costs £348 to apply for a Child Student visa from outside the UK. You’ll also have to pay the Healthcare surcharge as part of their application.

You must have enough money to pay for their course fees for one academic year (up to 9 months).

If your child is under 12 you will be able to accompany them in the UK. But you will need to obtain a Parent of a Child Student Visa

You will need £1,560 per month – this amount is for both you and your child.

If your child is over 16 they can work:

    • part-time during term for up to 10 hours per week
    • full-time during vacations
    • on a work placement as part of their course (but not for more than 50% of the course)

    They cannot:

    • study at an academy or a local authority-funded school (also known as a maintained school) or further or higher education institution
    • take a full-time permanent job or be self-employed

Applying for this visa can be time consuming, and if we were to take this responsibility for you, we charge $180. We would be delighted to help you apply and obtain your visa, but if you decide not to use our services we wish you the best of luck. Parent of a Child Student Visa

A Parent of a Child Student visa costs £516 ($680). You’ll also have to pay the healthcare surcharge as part of your online application. It usually costs around £624 per year.

You’ll need to show that you have enough money to support yourself and your child in the UK. You’ll need £1,560 for each month of your stay up to a maximum of £14,040 (9 months × £1,560).

You’ll need an extra £625 per month, for each additional child that accompanies you to the UK. They must be a sibling of your other child and also have a Child Student visa.

Your child must be aged between 4 and 11 when you apply, and be attending an independent school in the UK.

    You must also:

    • be the only parent accompanying your child in the UK
    • have enough money to support yourself and your child in the UK
    • maintain your main home outside the UK
    • plan to leave the UK when your visa expires

Unfortunately this visa only allows one parent to accompany your child in the UK. You cannot bring other family members with you on this visa but they may be able to apply to come to the UK on a short term visit visa.

You can stay in the UK until your child’s visa expires or they turn 12, whichever happens first.

If your child is staying in education in the UK without you, you must make arrangements for their ongoing care. For example, if your child turns 12 and their visa is still valid, they may be able to start boarding at their current school, or live with other family members in the UK.

While you’re in the UK on a Parent of a Child Student visa, you cannot:

    • do paid work
    • study
    • start a business
    • make the UK your main home

Applying for this visa can be time consuming, and if we were to take this responsibility for you, we charge $400. We would be delighted to help you apply and obtain your visa, but if you decide not to use our services we wish you the best of luck. We would advise you to make sure that you provide certified translated copies of any documents you supply as evidence. You must provide written proof of the course you’re studying. For example, a letter of acceptance from the educational institution stating the course’s name, duration and cost (including accommodation).

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can the UK government be influenced or asked to speed up the decision making process for my visa?

The UK Government offers 3 decision making services. The Standard visa, the Priority visa, and the Super Priority visa. The priority and super priority are additional paid options and cost extra, they are known as Fast Track options.
These options are offered to the applicant at the point of sale. They are also available to the applicant right up until the point where your biometrics are given at the VAC. After this point, nothing can be done to speed up the process. The Visa department will not make any application a priority unless you have paid for that service.

How important is it to supply documents to support my application?

The short answer is, vital. Every claim you make must be backed up by evidence, this will be in the form of a document. Note also that each document needs to be understood by a non-Turkish speaking government official. Therefore translations and English explanations are often necessary. If a document cannot be understood it is classed as missing. Therefore the question you are answering cannot be substantiated, this will affect your application. Ensure that the documents support you, and that they do not undermine your case.

The UK Turkey Life Service includes translations and production of a schedule of documents. We examine each document in detail and ensure that it assists your application, and that it is correct with no mistakes. We explain what each document means and what statement it is supporting. We create this in English and provide translations where necessary. You will not have to pay the VAC fees (of 340tl) to upload any documents, we do this for free.

I am not sure which visa type to apply for, what can I do?

You must choose the visa category that is right for you. If you proceed with the category that is not suitable, your application may be rejected immediately by the UK government official, with no refund offered.

We have an extensive section which outlines each type of visa and its purpose in our Visa Type page. If you are still having difficulty deciding which Visa type you require, you can contact us at UK-Turkey Life. Our dedicated staff will discuss the options with you.

Can I fill out the application form in Turkish?

The official application to be submitted to UK authorities must be in English. If you apply with UK Turkey Life, you can fill out the application form in Turkish and we will translate the document into English for you as part of our services. We will also translate any necessary documents at no extra cost. More about our services.

What information will I need to provide during my application?

You will generally need to give information about yourself and your family. You will then need to explain any employment history and wages, this may include giving details of incoming, outgoings and savings.
You will also be asked whether you have any criminal convictions and what your purpose of the visit will be. There may be other questions depending on your own personal circumstances.
Here is a list of the general information you will be asked to provide:

    • The dates you’re planning to travel to the UK
    • Where you’ll be staying during your visit
    • How much you think your trip will cost
    • Your current home address and how long you’ve lived there
    • Your parents’ names and dates of birth (if known)
    • How much you earn in a year (if you have an income)
    • Details of any criminal, civil or immigration offences you may have committed

Depending on your circumstances, you might also need to provide:

    • Details of your travel history for the past 10 years
    • Your employer’s address and telephone number
    • Your partner’s name, date of birth and passport number
    • The name and address of anyone paying for your trip
    • The name, address and passport number of any family members you have in the UK

What do I need to do when applying for a Visa?

The visa application process will vary depending on the type of visa you are applying for, but it generally consists of:
    • Submitting a written application
    • Providing supporting documents
    • Attending an appointment for biometrics and submitting your passport
    • Collection of your passport
It can be a challenging and complex process. UK Turkey Life was founded with the intention of making this process easier for you.

What are the main reasons a visa is refused?

    There are many reasons that the UK may refuse a Visa. It depends on the information given by you to the authorities. In deciding whether an application is appropriate, there are three main categories, these can be summed up as;

    • Financial means
    • Purpose of travel
    • Risk of illegal migration

    Your may be refused a visa if you fail to convince the UK visa officers examining your application that;

    • you’ll leave the UK at the end of your visit
    • you’re able to support yourself and your dependants during your trip (or have funding from someone else to support you)
    • you’re able to pay for your return or onward journey (or have funding from someone else to pay for the journey)
    • you’ll not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home

It can be challenging to clearly convey your circumstances to the UK authorities, especially if English does not come naturally to you. If you choose to apply with UK Turkey Life, our professional assistance will ensure your answers accurately reflect your circumstances, in addition our translation service will allow you to explain this to us in Turkish.

How long after my application is submitted to the UK authorities, will I get a decision about my visa application?

After you have attended your appointment at the Visa Application Centre (VAC), the UK Government aims to process your application and return your passport back to you within 21 days. However since the beginning of 2022 the UK authorities are taking longer than usual to process applications, and the Standard Visitor Visa is taking almost 7 weeks.
There are many other types of Visas under the categories of Work and Study. They have differing processing times, all of which are recoded in our Visa Types page. HYPERLINK
If you are prepared to pay additional costs to the UK Government, it is possible to get your Visa within one week of attending your appointment at the VAC, this is known as the Priority Service. It is even possible to get the UK to decide within 24 hours, this is known as the Super Priority Service. These services are subject to availability as per the UK Government’s decisions. We can purchase this service for you, but please discuss this prior to ordering.
